Essential is

Code:

Code:
Option         "FlatPanelProperties" "Scaling = Native"
Option         "ExactModeTimingsDVI" "True"

Code:
Section "Extensions"
Option         "Composite" "Disable"
EndSection

I had to delete my xorg.conf and let nvidia-xconfig create a new one. Then a added the paramters above and it worked.

The Sync Playback to Display Options must be active in XBMC.

hello, this is my xorg.conf

http://pastebin.com/iKrc5sJD

I have a AOC 46 3D TV. I dont know if this could be some bad information:

Code:
Identifier     "Monitor0"
    VendorName     "Unknown"
    ModelName      "Unknown"
    HorizSync       28.0 - 33.0
    VertRefresh     43.0 - 72.0
    Option         "DPMS"

Yours VertRefresh starts with 23. Mine with 43

That is not my xorg.conf. It is the one posted in this Thread on Page 2. The Sync and Refresh are related to the used Display so it should be ok but there are no moedelines and the other stuff. And what is your Hardware?

My hardware is:
Core duo, nvidia GTS 250 and ubuntu 12.04. I had a problem with nvidia drivers but I managed to install the latest or beta.

I think it worked out. I wrote the essential at xorg.conf and played a 3D mkv movie. It was very smooth and pressing "O" the FPS were quite stable and there was a anotation about 23.976. Also no errors.

But I let VDPAU turned OFF.

I dont know why, but before xbmc I used to play files with mplayer. I never managed to improve performance with VDPAU or other non-default mode. This is regardless of the hardware.

Enable VDPAU. Reduces CPU load a lot.

I know but the practical result is a significant loss of performance. I dont know why.
And this is for both computers I have (but only one has xbmc)

What? Why a performance loss? Enable VDPAU in XBMC, enable Logging, start a Video, stop it and poste the Log on Pastebin...

All VDPAU packages installed?

OK wait....should we use this modeline or the other one this is closer to 23.976 also will this flux my out of sync issues with some 23.976 material? I'm using recent GIT

Would have been nice if ezechiel1917 posted why he thinks that this is correct.
I would rather use the EIA-CEA standard which is the one I have posted. See Table 4: http://read.pudn.com/downloads122/ebook/...-861-B.pdf It has a pixel clock of 74.175

a/v sync is a different story.

so the a/v sync issue is still present? i fixed it always by a 200ms delay with the as.xml latency setting i just thought ae was suppose to fix it so gave a it a whirl. although changing refresh rates has made it better. i only have problems with my simpsons collection which is a mix of dvix xvid and mpeg4 all mkv seem to be in sync although its hard to tell without exteneded viewing and the simpsons are hard cuz its a cartoon. is it safe to say i should stay with the 200ms delay?

edit: also should i do do 60.00 htz or 59.94 htz for 29.97 ftps matierial? it seems 59.94 would be closer? should i set this to default refresh rate or keep default 60.00 but have it avalable as a modeline and xbmc will switch to it? or should i just not worry about it all together just stick with the 23.976 modelone

I've used this modeline on several setups and it works great. It's more accurate than EIA-CEA one (74.175 pc) and most accurate working 23.976 modeline I've found, also it works better for me on some displays.. No more missed frames and 24p perfectly fluid. If you're happy with the standard one (23.97576) you don't need to change it, otherwise it's definitely worth a try.

Is it still necessary to use <adjustrefreshrate> in advancedsettings.xml with 302> drivers to have both 23.976 and 24hz switching?

No.

My understanding of Modelines in xorg.conf is that they're setup specific. It depends which TV you use, if there's an AVR between your TV and your HTPC, etc. etc. So I really don't understand how one Modeline like the one above can solve all 24p playback issues? Or am I misinformed ? Smile

There is a standard which I posted above and the majority of TVs do follow this standard (check your EDID). What we actually do here is making two modes, 23.976 and 24.000, out of a single EDID info which has only a precision of 2 fractional digits (see my post above). Plug the same TV into e.g. an AMD system and you'll get the same out of the box.
