AppleTV 1 (silver) download movies using FTP client

I want to be able to remotly connect to my xbmc server from a remote location using xbmc FTP and be able to download the movies from the server to the appletv 1 is there any way to do this without the file manager (id like to be able to watch movies while it downloads).
