To be honest when i goto the sidebar menu option it gives me the option to select fan-art and then what type, as its never did anything different no matter what i have it set to, i wasn't sure where it would make a difference.

home menu = the menu you see on startup
vis = the screen you see when pressing tab
both of them do not have any sidebar so i have no idea what you´re talkin about.

I was meaning backdrop fanart - where is this fan-art displayed as mine does not appear to do anything

downoaded images with cdart manager? is path to music library set in skin settings?

Extrafanart is fanart, beyond that of fanart.jpg, that is downloaded by cdart manager(for music) or artwork downloader(movies/tv). It has no purpose other than for making rotating backgrounds.

For music, cdart manager makes a folder in each artists folder called 'extrafanart' and downloads some background images in there.

What is CD Art Manager, is that an add-on within XBMC or a seperate program?

I do not have the 'path to music' set to anything in the skin settings
