I was wondering if we are finally ok in here or if we're still only up to 11.10.

Also, wanted to ask the powers that be, that the wiki needs updating, people might stop using Ubuntu 7.10 a long time ago Smile and after 8.04/8.10 there's no mention whatsoever about the new Ubuntu's that do work Smile

One last thing I'd like to know if possible, from somebody who has tried it, does xbmc-buntu allow for installation alongside another os (like XP?), reason being that Id run XBMC as live if I can have the xp side (for gaming only). If not, I'll continue the status quo, xp/ubuntu Smile

Thanks!

No official version for Eden, but see this post: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid...pid1161196
If you want the bleeding edge (something(s) will likely be broken), you can try the pre-Frodo alpha which runs on Ubuntu 12.04: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid...ight=frodo

Since it's a wiki, the "powers that be" are the community. If you know what needs to be updated, please do.

XBMCbuntu is bundled with the Ubuntu operating system, so if you want to run XP as well as the XBMC application, you can:
  • Install XBMC as an application on an XP system and use it for both XBMC and gaming.
  • or setup dual-booting with XBMCbuntu in one partition (for XBMC) and XP on another partition (for gaming)
  • or install XBMCbuntu on a thumbdrive and bootup your XP system with the thumbdrive inserted when you want to run XBMC; remove the thumbdrive and bootup normally into XP when you want to do gaming.

I had Ubuntu 12.04 briefly running together with XBMC, but ultimately, I migrated the operating system to archlinux. Ubuntu has become quite heavyweight and I found some issues with the graphics I couldn't fix right away (video playback froze regularly for a fraction of a second).

Archlinux is very slim, so in general you have to configure many things from scratch that work (sometimes better, sometimes worse) on ubuntu right away. On the up side, you spend far less time fixing issues.

I believe xbmc is also in the debian repository, however, binary vendor drivers for GPU might be not. Still may be worth a look.

Hardware: ZOTAC ZBOX ID41, 4GB RAM, 1TB local 2,5" HDD, DVD Playback via iSCSI
Software: Archlinux with XBMC from repository
TV Set: LG 50PV350, Onkyo A-5VL + Nubert nuVero10

Oddly enough, I found Ubuntu 12.04 with XBMC installed afterwards to be much more stable and perform better than XBMCbuntu.

The following problems were present with XBMCbuntu that I haven't run into yet with 12.04:

-Suspend within XBMC wakes to blank screen
-DTS Passthrough never worked
-Cannot start Remote Webserver if XBMC is closed and restarted
-Various crashes when streaming from the web

The last two may just come from not having used 12.04 as much as XBMCbuntu.
