I am on Win 7, 64 Bit, XBMC Eden, No graphics card / hardware acceleration.

Here is the log file. http://xbmclogs.com/show.php?id=6182

I noticed starting yesterday that ALL movies exhibit tearing... sometimes a LOT of tearing. I believe there was a windows update in the last week or so and this appears to be related but I cant find out what exactly. The movies are actually unwatchable now.. Sad

I have attached the log files, starting with line number 1683 onwards (dark knight).

Any pointers are appreciated.

Edit : Solved. Please look at my response in this thread.

I only use external players, but I seem to remember that using true fullscreen instead of a fullscreen window always cured my problems with tearing.

And if that doesn't work toggle through your VSync options in the XBMC settings.

Main HTPC:
Intel e4600 + AMD HD5450 + Antec NSK2480B case + 4gb ddr2 + Earthwatts 430 + 1.5tb Seagate 7200 + XBMC Rapier Qualar Mod Skin + Win7
Office HTPC/Ripper/Server:
AMD x4 635 + GT220 + Antec 300 case + 4gbddr3 + OCZ ModXStream 500 psu + 3x2tb WD green drives + Win7

The vsync is on.

Curious why should enabling Aero matter ? I will test it later in the evening.

Because AERO isn't just eye candy, it's a strong vertical sync. Why was off? Performance? Similarity to XP? Smile

Late update. - Aero was / is Enabled. Still notice tearing. Miraculously a bit better, but still there.
Weird thing is.. little / no tearing when the camera pans top to bottom. Noticeable tearing when the camera pans left to right.

Any pointers?

In the VGA driver settings. there is an option to override vsync. check if it's not disabled.

Enable "Use fullscreen window rather than true fullscreen" in XBMC system/system/vdeo output will often (not always though) result in tearing. Disable it usually fix tearing issue.

Do you have AVR in between HTPC and HDTV? If you do, you need to set AVR to pass-through video......

>Alienware X51- do it all HTPC
>Simplify XBMC configurations
>HOW-TO Bitstreaming using XBMC
I refused to watch movie without bitstreaming HD audio!
