According to this wiki page: http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=Profiles

Quote:[Profiles allow] the ability to add add-ons both globally or on a per-profile basis

How is this done? Whenever I create a new profile, it can't consistently install add-ons, regardless of my lock settings, separate or shared media sources, etc. I can set my own settings for every add-on, but I can't seem to install and add-on for one profile and not have it show up in the add-ons list for other profiles. Is this in fact possible?

Thanks

Looks like my bad. It originally was possible before the v10 add-on system, back when add-ons were just called scripts and plug-ins. I had changed the text to "add-ons" but didn't read the full statement, which isn't true anymore.

In other words, add-ons are always global. Add-on settings are still per-profile, though.

You can make easy links to the XBMC wiki using double brackets around words: [[debug log]] = debug log, [[Add-on:YouTube]] = Add-on:YouTube, [[Adding videos to the library]] = Adding videos to the library, [[userdata]] = userdata, etc

Hmm, on second thought, maybe it is possible. Add-ons will install for all profiles by default, but since each profile has its own addon.db file, what is enabled/disabled should be settable per profile. However, when I try this I am unable to disable add-ons using anything other than the master profile. Could be something with my files, since I've been using nightlies and v11 side-by-side.

Thanks for looking into it at least. I've not had much luck tinkering either, and I'm just on v11 stable. Any idea whether this may come back in the future?

I hope this will work. It doesn't make much sense to only be able to separate some things with profiles. At least it was a problem for me since profiles was suggested as a solution when it isn't possible to have parental control over things. And i don't want the kids to be able to use all the video add-ons.
