Ok i have a mediacenter
with the following hardware
Mobo: Asrock H67M-ITX
Proc: Intel Core i3 2100
VGA: EVGA GeForce 210 DDR3
I have installed XBMCBuntu 11.0 fresh on it but I can't audio over hdmi.
There's a lot of information on this subject but it is confussing and after trying a lot of different thing it still doesn't work.
First thing I did is fire up alsamixer to check if no devices are muted
second i type aplay -l with this output
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 0: ALC892 Analog [ALC892 Analog]
Subdevices: 0/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 1: ALC892 Digital [ALC892 Digital]
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 1: NVidia [HDA NVidia], device 3: HDMI 0 [HDMI 0]
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 1: NVidia [HDA NVidia], device 7: HDMI 0 [HDMI 0]
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 1: NVidia [HDA NVidia], device 8: HDMI 0 [HDMI 0]
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 1: NVidia [HDA NVidia], device 9: HDMI 0 [HDMI 0]
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
i should probably use device 1,3/1,7/1,8 or 1,9
then i wanted to test if any of the device can make sound
so i used the following command
speaker-test -D plughw:1,x
with X being one of the following numbers 3,7,8 or 9
None of them produced a sound is also tested the analog device and it did produce sound.
Since i'm not even able to produce sound in the console i think I can forget about settings in xbmc it self for now.
I have read about making sure my video driver is up to date. (how do i check this or update it?)
I also have read about issues with pulse audio how can i check if i have these issues?
I have also included a debug log http://pastebin.com/CNAYepWf
I hope someone has some pointers or something usefull
Edit: I don't know what i did but the first part of the problem is solved.
Just did all the steps again and it worked now.
speaker-test -D plughw:1,7 produces pink noise
I still don't have audio in xbmc but theres progress now
Edit2:
now when i did use custom and plughw:1,7 is output settings it works.
So it seams it works now. Although i have no clue what i did different now. I have also tried these options multiple times before.
