vu+ and Marusys prism
#1
I have just discovered today that there are 2 companies that are going to sell a set top box based on XBMC with PVR support.

Vu+ annonced last year that they were working on a project called XBMC4STB (XBMC for set top box) and the target was to release a product by the end of 2012.
Marusys wich seems to be a different company also have a product called prismcube (www.prismcube.com) based on the same project XBMC4STB (not yet available). I have not understood what is the relation between Vu+ and Marusys but it seems that they collaborate together.

My question is, does theses companies collaborate with XBMC developpers regarding PVR functionnalities ? (there is a demo here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y37XPG5grbo , the product with PVR included seems to be ready for production).
Can we have a benefit from these companies's works ?

Thanks
Ralph

Ok, nevermind. I am sure xbmc will have one day the best pvr thanks to you and all xbmc developpers.

I found this videos on youtube showing the PVR section of the prismcube product if it can give some ideas.

Great!!

Maybe you could "bump into them" and get some new information about the prism cube and the release date.

At the Anga Cable I believe they said the prism cube will be released in 2012. Another interesting aspect would be the estimated price of the device.

It would be great if you post it here if you get any kind of new information as there is not happening that much at the moment.

The PrismCube website has been updated this week with lots of videos so it's probably closer to being released. They say on their site: "As an official member of XBMC", so are they working with xbmc devs?

no they are not working with us, they're just using our code and any statement about being an "official member of xbmc" is false. and i'm not seeing any source link on their website or sponsor link on ours, so i might be sending them a nice email pretty soon Smile

Marusys is the parent company to Vu+.

It was demonstrated to me (for this little video) last year, at Anga in Koln:

They were obviously behind, as it is allegedly starting to get to shops only now... At €430 a go, sadly...

http://www.prismcube.com/

Apparently, they had HW problems and chipset had to be abandoned - but I do not know the details...

Quote:...heard that chip was not as good as they hoped and cancelled the shiner project.
Shiner (8735 I thoughed) is the chipset they used in the prismcube.
Probably they will use kronos chipset instead.

Anyone?

The specs are here: http://www.prismcube.com/popup.html. CPU is PNX8496-1250DMIPS.

I believe the price will be €290 and it is due for release on the 27/06/13.

I know the specs generally but I need to research the chipset now... haven't done it yet, obviously... Big Grin

Anyway, 1250 DMPIS doesn't seem very powerful, so it's about the rest of the motherboard and the rest of it all, isn't it?

Price: not quite, sadly... http://www.astrasat.nl/digitale-ontvange...layer.html
