2.1 setup for Media-PC?

Hi,

I built a Media-PC running XBMC based on this http://www.jetwaycomputer.com/ITX-JBC230C63P-330WD.html 2 years ago. Its been working fine, is running latest version of XBMC. No issues.

I want to now though add external audio, and ideally cheaply....

At the moment the sound from the Media-PC goes to the TV, via HDMI. The TV has optical audio outputs and analog audio output.

What is the best way to do it? If I attach 2.1 setup to the media-pc then obviously any content direct to the tv (such as cable) will come out of the TV speakers....

An A/V amplifier seems overkill though as all I want is 2.1 audio from Media-PC + TV (if via another source such as cable) to come out of a new set of speakers.

Any views please?

THanks

If your going 2.1 then it really doesn't mater. What ever is more convenient. Ether the audio out from your PC or your TV. Obviously your not going to be using your Optical TV out as it would require an amp.

Thanks for reply. If i took the speakers from the TV, is there a risk the TV will in some way down grade the quality from my xbmc box? (newbie). Thanks.

In my experience, audio out from tv degrades sq. Connect pc audio out directly to speaker system for better sound quality.

Also, connecting your speakers to PC audio-out allows you to play XBMC music through those speakers without having the TV turned on.

If your buying a 2.1 speaker set I suggest these. They sound almost as good as my $700 system

im using these for my bedroom setup and there amazing. Love them. one thing to be aware of is the ProMedia 2.1 Control Pod.
they have a tendancy to malfunction. I had to take mine apart and spray a little oil on the volume knob connection. If you have any problems you can google it, Also here is the link to replace the pod http://www.klipsch.com/promedia-2-1-control-pod#
its only $22.80.
