Beginner questions and help

Hello, in an attempt to cut my cable subscription, I came across XBMC. I've been attempting to do some research of late, but I was hoping you kind people could help me out.

Is it feasible to have a live stream of quality cable channels such as USA, TNT, TBS, ESPN, ESPN 2, Cartoon Network, CNN, etc? If so, what would be the best way of going about this? Are they actually good quality?

I have a decent internet connection (20 Mbps), and I am debating between an Apple TV or Raspberry Pi to put XBMC on it. I was just hoping someone could get me put in the right direction to getting the channels I specified above.

Thank you so much for any help given. This seems like a great community.

Welcome to the XBMC forums.

XBMC is not a replacement for cable or satellite in terms of live TV. For more details:

You can install XBMC on one of your existing computers and try it out to see what it can and cannot do in terms of accessing, organizing and presenting media content.
