Newbie - How can I? - Customize Menus and Grouping Movies

As a long time user of other HTPC programs I must say I love XBMC. I'm currently running Ubuntu 12.04 with XBMC installed as an application. I tried XBMCBuntu but wanted the full OS underneath. I use the Aeon Nox skin and I prefer the InfoWall presentation. I use XBMC as a Video and TVShow library.

I'd like the menus (in Eden and Aeon Nox) to more accurately reflect the way I group movies.

I have my movies in folders: New Releases, Recent, Archive. Ideally I'd have main menu items or each or perhaps subfolders under Movies. Currently I have to go through Videos, Files - Select the right folder. Maybe I could do something with Favorites? I don't mind modifying the scripts, if that's what it takes, but I'd appreciate hearing what other's have done.

I'm also having difficulty with "stacking" movies. IE - MY MOVIE - CD1.AVI. I'll keep digging but I wanted to be sure I was searching on the right term. All I'm looking for is combining those movies that are on two CD's into one menu entry and to play as a unit, not two movies. Is that called "stacking"?

I'm also intending to use "collections", or "movie sets". IE "James Bond Movies". As far as I can tell the best way to do that is to create an NZB file with the collection information. There are tools to help. It seems like a fairly static process so it's for established movie sets only. It seems the best search argument for that is "movie sets". Is that correct and is the NZB file the right approach?

Thank you for any help. Just a push in the right direction is fine. Overall I'm just looking for ways to organize my movies, on the menu(s), in an orderly fashion.

You could look into using smart playlists to create your new releases, recent, archive etc using various conditions.

More information here: http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=Smart_Playlist

You are correct re the term stacking, you simply need to have both files with the exact same name & located in the same folder, rather than cd1 & cd2 folders. you must ensure you add CD1, CD2 and so on to the end of each file name.

More information on Stacking here: http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=File_stacking

Re Movie sets / collections, you will need to edit the .nfo file to add the following tag(s)

<set>set title</set>

and optionally

<sorttitle>title 1</sorttitle>

More information on this can be found here: http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=Movie_sets

You can also use the movie set add-on, more information here: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=89163

Thank you very much for the information. I'd already tried some of this but other information was new. It's nice to know that at least I'm non the right track. After I've had a chance to work with this I'll post again to indicate how it went.
