Win System for XBMC with 880G chipset
#1
Hi:

I'm considering building a system for XBMC taking advantage of some components i have here. The system will be used for media playback, some web browsing and google earth (for the fun).

I have an AMD Athlon II 270U CPU which i'm not using, and a total of 4GB of RAM available. The idea was to mount this using a AMD 880G chipset mini-itx motherboard. Now, the question is: will the 880G chipset be able to handle 1080p high bitrate mvk? Will this system work ok? Or i'm i get stuttering and jerky video playback?

Regards.

Can you add a GPU? Something like a AMD HD6450 will work for very little cost and it will give you an HDMI port.

The idea was to use a mini-itx case, so adding a GPU is not possible. The motherboards have i'm considering have HDMI output, so what would i gain from using HMDI from a external GPU?

my guest bedroom htpc is on a 780g (HD3200) and it plays everything with DXVA2 on windows.

without dxva2, it stutters with high bitrate, but that's due to my cpu also being slow (athlon x2 64 5000)

I've done some tests with the AMD 270U processor and a 880 chipset motherboard, and all 1080p movies played fine Smile
