First htpc built (21:9 resolution)
#1
I've been looking around for about a month now to check up on how to make my own htpc.

I would like to do a little gaming on my rig and 3D playback also has to be supported.
Because my tv (Philips 50pfl7956 ) is a 21:9 tv, i have to do a little playing around to get a good resolution (make the pc output at a 2560x1080 resolution which the hdmi will put through as a 1080p resolution and the tv will then stretch to full 2560x1080 resolution)

( read more about it here )

Maybe someone has a better idea of pulling this off?

Now I've looked for a fanless system (eg Streacom fc8) but maybe all the heatpipe-bending and searching for the right mobo might be a little to advanced for me so i've settled on this for now:

Case: SilverStone Sugo SG05BB, mITX, Black, 450W
Mobo: Intel DH77DF S1155 H77 2xDDR3 mITX
CPU: Intel Core i3-3225, 3.30GHz, 3MB, HD4000, S1155
HD: Crucial V4 64GB 2.5" SATA2
RAM: Corsair ValueSelect 8GB(2x4GB) DDR3 1333MHz CL9

I am planning to add an optical blu-ray drive in the future and i like the idea that i can always add a GPU-card if i want more gaming performance, I've got a NAS with MKV's that i'll be streaming. And have a netflix account but since i live in Belgium i use a VPN to connect to it so i'm guessing i'll have to use Windows 7 as OS?

Hopefully some good advice here will put me on the right track and i'll have the courage to go on with my little project Smile

addendum: is it worth using 1600Mhz memory instead of 1333Mhz?

Not unless you're gaming with an AMD integrated GPU.
