XBMC Live - audio port mapping

After using XBMC on Ubuntu 11.04 and finding my 1080p .mkv video to be choppy, I switched to XBMC live to see if that improved things, which it did tremendously.

Now the final issue i have is analogue surround sound. I am very new to linux and need to find a method to re-task my rear MIC and LINE-IN (pink and blue) ports to allow them to output Rear Surround and Center/Sub audio channels. (ports are picked up in mixer, but as inputs)

Have looked all over for solutions and cant seem to find anything that makes any sense. I assume I will have to edit some sound mapping file. Any advice on what file and how I need to edit it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
Simon

I see this thread is incredibly old but I am also looking for help regarding setting up line in and microphone ports for audio.

Dude - they are for audio IN not audio OUT. You'll never get audio coming out of those ports unless you physically re-wire the hardware. Just buy a sound card that works the way you want it.
