What do you want to do with your HTPC?

Probably won't ever need or use 8 gb ram, 4 is lots. Also for $69 you can purchase 120gb ssd instead for twice the OS space.

Also what is htpc for?

Agree about the 8GB of ram,..4 is enough.

I disagree with your subject line: "New HTPC Build (nothing special)"
In my opinion,...this IS something special,..and you're going to LOVE IT! Wink

Group #5 from eskro "From which group do you belong?!" thread would best suite me, although bistreaming HD-Audio sounds enticing.

* HDTV possess HDMI ports
* wants to play SD movies (DivX, XviD)
* wants to play DVD movies
* wants to play 720P movies
* wants to play 1080P movies
* wants to stream 1080P Hulu content
* wants to stream 1080P Netflix movies (Windows only)

4GB of Kingston ValueRAM DDR3-1333 is all you need.

If you went mini-ITX you could get the Gigabyte GA-H61N-USB3 and put it in the Apex MI-008 and save some money.

The ram is no big deal, i didn't know that case came with a PSU. 250w seems a little low but if i'm not running a dedicated video card or extra HDD i should be OK.

250w PSU is plenty of power for most discrete GPU. I had Apex MI-008 case, and it handled my extra hard drive, Nvidia GT430 and 3 USB drives with ease.....

>Alienware X51- do it all HTPC
>Simplify XBMC configurations
>HOW-TO Bitstreaming using XBMC
I refused to watch movie without bitstreaming HD audio!

+1 for what bluray says. I even had that same 250W SFX PSU running my home server for a while (6 SATA drives, etc.)

For the A6-3500/A75/4GB/64GB SSD mini-itx machines I usually run with a 120W PSU. There's other threads in here with people using 90W picoPSUs. You'll be fine.

Yeah I was debating about your build but opted out because I don't like bricks (beaut of a setup though). Not sure why I thought 250w wouldn't be good enough, especially with all these pico builds.

Yes, the chip needs to be changed or back to a FM1 chipset board.

One thing you do get with a brick setup is a fanless power supply. That's one reason I like them. Also, with these low power setups, they're the most efficient power supplies you can get. No one seems interested in making a 120W ATX PSU.

Defanitly all great reasons to go with a brick style setup. I just hate the one the comes with my Xbox Smile
