A6-3500 based HTPC (edit - bought G550 system)
#1
Hello guys,

I've been reading quite a lot, but still got some questions unanswered. hope you could give me some advice. So I'm looking to build me HTPC system, which should be able to handle everything (except 3D, as my plasma tv is without it and i'm not planning to upgrade soon) without a sweat. no ODD is planned as for now (not really see the need for it). movies will be streamed through wired 100 mbps network from main pc.

my chosen parts so far:
CPU: AD3500OJGXBOX: AMD A6 X3 3500, socket FM1, 2.1 GHz, 3MB, 65W, BOX
MB: ASRock A75M-ITX, A75, DualDDR3-1866, SATA3, RAID, HDMI, D-SUB, GBLAN, mITX
RAM: BLT2G3D1869DT1TX0CEU: MEMORY DIMM 2GB PC14900 DDR3/BLT2G3D1869DT1TX0CEU C
RUCIAL, 2x (4 gb in total)
CASE: 0761345-08174-0: ANTEC MINI-ITX DESKTOP ISK 300-150 EC
CPU cooler: KSCA0107/ SCSK-1100: Scythe Shuriken Rev.B, s.478,775,1155,1156,1366,75
4,939,AM2,AM2+;
SSD: CT128M4SSD2: SSD Crucial M4 128GB SATA3, 415/175MBs

I've got these questions:
1. are the parts compatible, i.e. will it be possible to assemble everything without case modifications etc.? no HDD will be installed.
2. what about antec PSU - will it be sufficient and what about noise it makes? is it bearable? (i cant get 300-65 version here..)

Do you have any further comments on my chosen parts? would you recommend something else?

Thanks a lot.

IIRC, to fit the Shuriken requires a bit of modding to the hard drive tray. How about the Scythe Kozuti which is only 40mm?

Thanks Dougie. I've read however this fitting problem seems to be with shuriken v2, not with my mentioned one.. anyone can confirm this?

DOugie, your mentioned cooler - how is it comparing to AMD stock cooler? IS it more silent, as ive heard stock cooler is very noisy..

Users in this forum and other forums replaced AMD stock cooler with Scythe cooler to reduce noise....since the case is so thin, I'm recommending Scythe - Kozuti Low Profile CPU Cooler too....since it is lower profile, it'll have more room for air flow too.....

>Alienware X51- do it all HTPC
>Simplify XBMC configurations
>HOW-TO Bitstreaming using XBMC
I refused to watch movie without bitstreaming HD audio!

I used the a6-3500 for my build and used the stock cooler and i can tell you i never hear it at all.
Htpc A6-3500,Gygabyte GA-A75M-D2H,Samsung 830 64gb ssd,GSkills ripjaws 2x4gb,Apevia xmaster case with 500w psu,
Asus black internal bluray drive, logitech k400 wireless keyboard.

Thx for thoughts. Mentioned cooler is out of stock where I live, therefore will look further or choose some other case..

so.. i've finally built my first HTPC. however, went for Intel G550 system instead of AMD:

1 x AD3U1333C4G9-S: A-DATA DDR3-1333 4G 256*8 CL9 S-TRAY -
1 x 7K09B-FB30U: COMPUCASE 7K09 MICRO ATX 300W 80+ - -
1 x CT128M4SSD2: SSD Crucial M4 128GB SATA3, Sparta 415/175MBs - -
1 x B75M: ASRock B75M, B75, DualDDR3-1600, SATA3, SATA2, HDMI, GBLAN, mATX -
1 x BX80623G550: Intel Celeron G550, 2.60GHz, 2MB, LGA1155, 32nm, BOX

So far, so goodSmile system is silent to me, 1080p bluray streams smoothly (~30% cpu load). if i'll run into some problems, i'll just add a discrete video card (but i doubt i will need that..).

special thanks to assassinhtpc, who's posts inspired to choose this over AMD. it's cheaper and meets my needs.
