I had a problem where .nfo was written with UTF-16 text encoding and XBMC can't handle that. Has to be UTF-8 for Unicode. You can see it in the debug log that the .nfo is ignored. If in doubt in Windows you can open in notepad (assume other OS have similar editors) and do a "save as" and select UTF-8 encoding.
