What formats are allowed for thumbnails used for say, movie or music folders? Moreover, is it possible to allow an animated GIF as a thumbnail?

Have a look over the Wiki article concerning thumbnails. I do know that a .gif file is unsupported.

Yes, had a read of the Wiki and gif files aren't supported but I have folders with animated png frames working for weather icons by changing image to multiimage with appropriate delay times etc. Thought it may be possible to do so with the choose thumbnail feature by changing that to multiimage if I knew where that process was performed
