It seems like the following project has a lot of potential for providing a lot of computer power at low power consumption (fanless) and would be perfect for encoding and other fp operations if using Opencl.

Has anyone looked into it?

Since its a Dual-core ARM A9 CPU with 1gb ram, running ubuntu, xbmc would definitely run on it. But getting XBMC to use the 16 or 64 extra cores would take allot of work. But when that's is done the possibilities should be endless, multiple 1080p playback ?

Do you think openCL would be a good path forward for acceleration in the future? Being an open standard this is an interesting approach to get access to hardware optimized for floating point unlike CPU or GPU. If this type of hardware doesn't stick you can always fall back on using opencl being accelerated via GPU hardware.
