As an owner of an original iControlPad, I thought that this might be a great HTPC remote due to the inclusion of a keyboard:

With the first iCP they really made a high quality product, too, and it's not all made in China (they avoid Chinese factories as much as possible). Controllers make for surprisingly good HTPC remotes, and it's a great if you install emulators on your HTPC as well. Too bad the keyboard doesn't have a backlight.

Really cool suggestion, Ned. Just not quite what I'm looking for... I will never be gaming on my HTPC so I don't need the D-pad and the like, but thanks for the link!
Any suggestions, particularly for Linux?

I like the Tivo Slide in the $60 price range. It works great for some configurations of equipment, and poorly for others. There are threads asking about remotes here all the time, and they all end the same way: "Just buy a Logitech Harmony for $200 and save the time/cost/frustration of going through three or four cheap remotes along the way". I now own a Harmony 900, and while there are many things I hate about it, I still think it's the best option in the consumer level market.

You get harmony remotes as cheap as 15$
There is absolutely no reason to buy a different remote...
