Hi,

I'm looking at building a PC just for XBMC due to the Samsung Allshare interface being ugly as hell.

The kit I've got (old bits from old PC's) is:

I still need to buy a SSD, remote, memory & PCIe x16 GFX card but thats all dependant on if the motherboard & CPU are up to the task. Can someone let me know please?

Also, after some googling, I saw someone say not to use the NAS I have have but didn't say why. I can't seem to find the forum it was on so thought I'd ask the experts. Will the Iomega StorCenter ix2-200 Cloud Edition (4TB) be ok to use with a PC running XBMC?

Much of the movie playback will actually be more dependent on the GPU than the CPU.

$40 for a SSD AR, $50 for some memory, and maybe $20 for a video card that will do all you need. It may not be pretty, and it may not be silent, but it should work fine.

Since that card is sold out (bummer -- great deal) you can also search on slickdeals.net for another HD5450 or HD5570 deal. There's always one somewhere it's just a matter of finding it and grabbing it.

If you've already got the NAS why not just try it?

All of the spare mobo's I've got are too old for my liking so I'm going build a new low profile, fanless HTPC. In the mean time, it is best that I test the NAS first. It's fine to my TV so it just depends if there's any issues with XBMC. I doubt it though. So I'm going to run it off a USB drive on my main PC to test before I start buying any parts.
