Hi

I am trying to get DVD playback working with XBMC

Some quick info on my setup:

Mac Mini 2012 - Mountain Lion OS X 10.8.1
Install Method: dmg
External Drive: Digistor 79092 - connected via USB
XBMC Version: 12.0-Alpha6 Pre Frodo build ( As i am using PVR functionality) but issue was also there in Eden before I upgraded recently
Skin: Aeon Nox
DVD: Casino but tried multiple other DVD's

I have enabled:

Disc Playback in my skin
Play DVD's automatically in system settings - Video

Problem:
When I insert a DVD into my disc drive, the Play Disc menu does not appear in XBMC - nothing happens at all. I have tried forcing the Play Disc menu entry using this post: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=129330 - but even with the menu entry there, nothing happens when I click on it. I have tested this problem with 2 different external DVD drives (before this a Samsung) and both have the same problem. Also the drive does play DVD's back no problem with VLC etc. Just cant seem to get DVD playback working in XBMC

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Could you verify if this also happens with the default confluence skin?

Please post a new log with that scenario (using confluence and hitting the dvd button).

sorry just noticed I made mistake. In transparency skin I can see the Play Disc menu if I turn on the menu in skin settings but when I click on the menu nothing happens. Interestingly, in transparent skin Play Disc menu, If i click on Eject/Load sub menu, nothing also happens. In Confluence, there is no Play Disc menu at all when I insert a disc

I have been having a similar problem under various Ubuntu versions (currently 12.04), as do a few other people on this thread
http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=129753 . The 'Play Disc' menu usually does not appear when I insert a disc; occasionally it works but it's erratic.

Memphiz, if you are looking into this issue, could you also have a look at that thread please? It would be great if we could solve this issue for Linux as well as Mac!

I'm happy to give more details or do some attempt at diagnosis; let me know what you need.

Should be fixed for osx in the next nightly. I was not able tor reproduce the problem on linux (the bugfix was osx specific too).

Thanks very much for checking! I managed to get it to work on Ubuntu over the weekend (I posted the workaround in the thread linked earlier). Looks like it is an issue with Ubuntu rather than XBMC so the problems were only superficially similar.

Hi

I installed the latest nightly. Now the Play Disc menu appears when a disc is inserted which is great . Its still not behaving quite as expected though:

If the disc is inserted before XBMC is started the DVD plays as expected from the Play Disc menu.
However, If the disc is inserted after XBMC is started, if i select Play Disc from the menu, nothing happens. I keep selecting the menu and literally nothing happens.

Would you like another confluence debug log?
