Linux looking for a good powersupply for my mediacenter
#1
Hio all,

im currently building a small itx box but the supplier said i dont have enough watts for the system if i choose for picopsu 150w with a 150watt adapter. I have the following setup:

streacom f7c http://www.streacom.com/products/f7c-chassis/
Processor: intel i3 2120 (65watt)
memory: 2x Kingston ValueRAM - Geheugen - 2 GB - DIMM 240-pins -DDR3 - 1333 MHz
Harddisk: Kingston SSDNow V200
motherboard: ASRock B75M-ITX
###graphicscard: ASUS EN210 SILENT/DI/1GD ### Left this one out.

IS THIS TRUE? Or can i simply add the picopsu 150watt to my setup? Else i might be f**ed up.

i hope someone can lift me out of the fire. I will be running openelec tho. But i want to play 3D movies and such.

The Asus 210 you sure you need it? from what I read the i3 2120 can play all....
I do think the 150W supply should be ok....

Don't they make a 160W pico....

Lets hear from the experts....

Yes they do have 160watt power supplies but at first i thought 150watts should be enough.
and about the processor i do not know. Ill research that a bit futher. Because in the 'Your Very First HTPC? But Where do You Start' Treat he suggests a gt210 for 3d playback.

Lets see what others think about it. Thanks for the reply Smile

Oh ok that thread is a little old...

You won't need a GT210.....

Why not go with a i3-3225 if you wan't intel. People been saying that you will have the latest HD4000 graphics...
but yes it is a little more expensive.

The i3-2120 will work.... even a Pentium G630 will do!

It all depends on what you plan to do with your HTPC.... or if money don't matter you can always get the most expensive.

I only use mine for XBMC... watch 1080P vids, music, pics, TV Shows, Youtube etc.... and I am happy with my A6-3500 chip.

That thread is pretty old. I'd try without the discrete GPU and only add one if you have issues. Many many many many people here and elsewhere run integrated GPUs since Intel's Clarkdale CPUs and are very happily watching movies.

FWIW, I have run the following with a 120W powr supply and it didn't use over 90W as measured with a Kill-a-Watt with Prime95 large FFTs test: i3-2100, 4GB RAM, 64GB SSD, 250GB 2.5" HDD, slot-in BD-ROM, PowerColor HD5450 GPU. Under normal usage you'd be lucky to see 50W.

I allready own the processor thats why its included else i might choose the 3th generation Smile

I would check compatibility with your case. The case has a mounting hole for a barrel (single hole) power jack but the pico 150 uses a different style plug that screws in (3 holes).

oh yes..! now you mention it, the whole time i meant the picopsu 120w. Stupid me...
well i still have my answer Smile thanks for clarifying that, i'll see how much my box uses and then i will order the picopsu which suits the best.

And the drill is always hungry Wink

I can keep you posted on how much it will use on full hd/3d playback if someone is interested ?
