I have just re-installed XBMC Eden (I think I had a 'senior' moment' and uninstalled XBMC without thinking) and when opening the program am getting the following error message :

CApplication::Create() failed - check log file and that it is writable
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

I have looked in the program files (x86) and %appdata% folder for log files and have not had any luck.

Can someone guide me in the right direction to ix this issue please ?

You haven't provided enough information, so I'm not really sure what is up... http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=Log_file

My recommendation is a total re-install from scratch... and don't get old. delete (or rename) the file C:\Users\Your_user_anme\AppData\Roaming\XBMC and the main XBMC folder in c:program files (x86)
