Just found this thread. And nice, that there is a solution to the issue with the remote.

However, would it not be a good plan, to update the app in the Google Store ? The app distributed there is currently 0.8.8-beta1, while https://github.com/tombriden/android-xbm.../downloads lists 0.10.6 as the latest.

This could put newcomers off quite quickly.

Either have the updated app on the Google Store or don't have it there at all. But having outdated stuff there is counter-productive.

I have just started to experiment with xbmc and have downloaded the Offical xbmc remote from the Play Store (Google). After wasting quite a bit of time trying to get it to work I find this thread which appears to say no one is working on the app despite it being the "official" version, and even worse a broken version has been put on the Play Store when something that actually works is available in the repository. Marlow mentioned this a week ago - just a little action could save newcomers unnecessary frustration.

Pay attention to the threads (though it isn't stickied) Test version available here: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=147741

It's still a mess though, which I think is their point.

Hopefully with Frodo now out the Android app isn't going to be too far behind?

Should be on Google Play by now, took a while to appear.
Running XBMC on my HTPC, tablet, phone and pinball machine.
Always read the XBMC online-manual, FAQ and search the forums before posting. Do NOT e-mail Team-XBMC members asking for support. For troubleshooting and bug reporting, make sure you read this first.

On several devies it's giving this error:

i/o exception (java.io.filenotfoundexception)
ad02:8080/xbmcCmds/xbmcHttp?command=GetSystemInfo(120)

I tried changing to different ip and several ports but without luck.

Any ideas?

Using XBMC 12.0 Alpha 7

Edit:
When opening url on desktop i'm getting file not found
(http://ad02:8080/xbmcCmds/xbmcHttp?comma...mInfo(120))

exactly the same here... Confused

using XBMC 12.0 (Compiled: Jan 28 2013) and the XBMC Remote App from the Google Store
