Seems easier than found down the raspberry route.

Allwinner A10 Chip. I would avoid it.

Currently only ones based on AMLogic chipsets have hardware decoding support. If you get a beefy enough ARM CPU you might be able to software decode some 720 videos. There's at least 4 different boxes floating around the hardware forums here for boxes that are confirmed working. If you're in the US I would go with Pivos XIOS (especially when it's on sale from $115 to $100).
