Release XBMC LCDproc Python addon

Attention to all users installing directly from the GIT repository!

The repository and the included directory have been moved to https://github.com/herrnst/script.xbmc.lcdproc (directory renamed to script.xbmc.lcdproc). As the internal ID has been adapted as well, it is neccessary to reconfigure all GUI settings you may have made when upgrading things to use the new URL.

One of the reasons this step was a neccessity is to make definitely clear that this addon is interfacing to LCDproc only, and doesn't support any other middlewares (like ImonManager on win32).

Sorry and apologizes to any hassle or trouble this may cause to you, but be assured this is a one-timer Wink[/b]

Files should be at the root of the repo and not inside a folder. This messes with pulling in scripts.

@Martijn: Thanks for your valuable comments and feedback today Wink

@All: After shuffling around the GIT repo today, some commits where added afterwards that - besides other things - fix a 100% CPU hog problem when the given LCDd is unavailable. So, please either test how it all works now with this specific version, or update to the latest HEAD of the master branch (Note: Eden users will need to switch to the "release/1.2.x" branch!). Whichever method, take care of the rename and the change of the directory structure! Please report any issues Wink

For all of you looking for an easy way to install and use stable versions of script.xbmc.lcdproc - the addon is now part of the official XBMC.org addon repository!

I have installed lcdproc on xbmcbuntu and installed the official xbmc lcdproc addon but my imon LCD does not display anything and also the back light does not power off. I have set "dim backlight" for both screen saver and shutdown, but the light remains on after the computer shutdown.

Also I find that I cannot power on the computer from an off state like I could previous on Windows 7 with XBMC11.

I have this case: Antec Fusion Black

iMon LCD version 0038.

Please advise. Thanks.

Hi,

sounds like you even don't get the standard LCDproc server screen with the heartbeat symbol at the top right. Please make sure that you set up your LCDd configuration (in /etc/LCDd.conf) to use the "imonlcd" driver.

At line 53 or so, you should find a line saying "Driver=curses" - change that to "Driver=imonlcd". A bit down below (line 582 ff. for me), you find a configuration section for the driver (headed by "[imonlcd]"). Here, set "Protocol" to 1. Recommendation: Also set "OnExit" to 2 (makes my iMON turn off on shutdown).

Then restart LCDproc by executing "/etc/init.d/LCDd restart", you should get the server screen afterwards. After thats working, your display should immediately show something when starting XBMC using the addon.

I have updated the LCDd.conf file and rebooted the computer. I still do not see anything on the LCD screen, nor does it turn off the backlight after shutdown.

How can I see if the lcdproc server is running?

You can check using the ps command:

First (user id the process runs as), but definitely the second (process id) column may/will differ, though. If it's running and still don't see the LCDproc server screen, there's probably (still) something wrong with your LCDd.conf - please pastebin it and post the link so I can take a look.

Actually I just realized that I did put the imonlcd in the wrong place, I have now updated the config file and put the imonlcd under the server section and now the LCD screen is working properly.

But now my Harmony remote has stopped working. Any button that I press does not register.

Also when playing a video the LCD screen turns on and off constantly and displaying artifacts.

Yeah sorry about not using pastebin.com there.

Well I am making some progress here. I did a complete purge on lcdproc and rebooted the system. I then reinstalled lcdproc and rebooted again. At this point the LCD is working and also my remote is now working.

But I still have the problem of the LCD turn on/off continuously while playing a TV show or movie.

Normally the LCDd shouldn't have any effect on IR remote functionality. Maybe you have the actual LCDproc application running which uses the LCDd to display stuff like system information and so on - this may very well cause issues. So make sure LCDproc is not running (but LCDd is!).

Might be related to the "ServerScreen" setting. Please at first make sure LCDd as well as your remote works correctly, then try to (re)enable the addon. Note that you must disable XBMC's internal LCD support under "Settings - System - Video output - Enable LCD/VFD" before enabling the LCDproc python addon.

Can you make a video (e.g. with your cellphone or so) of that maybe?

Quick guess: When navigating, display is lit and showing things. Every few seconds the contents switch to the LCDd server screen saying "LCDproc server" and something like "CLI: 1" in the second line. When starting to play a video, the display backlight turns off, then turns back on every 5 seconds, displaying the "LCDproc server" thingy, then after a short moment it turns off again, and so on. Solution to this is the "ServerScreen" setting described above.

If you don't want the display backlight turned off when playing something, edit the LCD.xml usually located at /home/xbmc/.xbmc/userdata/ and change

and then reload the addon.
