Hello,

I'm trying to make myself a homemade HTPC and I hesitate between two solutions.
So I'm posting here to ask for your opinion.
This PC will be used only as a mediacenter and a browser.
I will install the OpenElec distribution to use XBMC.

This two ways are :

AMD Fusion - E450
- Mainboard: asus deluxe e45m1-i (Mini ITX)
- Case: Antec ISK 300-15

OR

Socket FM1
- Gigabyte GA-USB3-A75n
- APU A6-3500 (or better)
- Case: STREACOM (Mini ITX) Fanless


I complete with :
- SSD
- Memory: G.Skill Kit 2 x 2 Go
- Slim Blu-Ray Player


The most important points, for this HTCP are :
- able to read the FullHD (Blu-Ray, MKV, avi ...)
- a smaller size
- silent
- power saver

I would suggest you to build the version with Socket FM1 because you have a little more reserves regarding the CPU. I've build one for myself with that CPU/APU and as a HTPC this one is working perfect. Allthough I didn't build a fanless one...

+1 to the A6 build. The tri core CPU will become useful while browsing your movie collection as well as during playback.

I just saw that MiniITX motherboards with socket FM2 are coming soon.
In your opinion, is it interesting to wait that?

Exemple of build :
Mainbord - FM2-A75IA-E53 (A75 Chipset)
APU : A4-5300 ou A6-5400K


It's more expensive but the frequency of the APU is better !

I'll wait. Trinity seems to have a lower power consumption in idle and low load. I'm going to order Asrock F2 ITX mainboard because it solves issue with remote control (CIR).

I've just ordered A6-5500 (5600K was not on the stock in my local shop) and Asus F2A85-M for my desktop PC. I'll test it and make further decisions on my HTPC build.

PS. Frequency of the APU is not the most important advantage of Trinity.
