1080i/576i playback on raspberry pi
#1
Hello,

This is test file (mkv, 1080i, 309 MB): http://szok.345.pl/test.mkv - this is test file recorded from tv (1080i) using tvheadend/xbmc on my PC. When I'm trying to play it on my pi/openelec it does not work - after a few seconds playback hangs. 1080p movies works without any problems.

They (openelec team) say this should be reported to xbmc, because xbmc 11 don't have this bug (the same file works on pi without any problems). So - what do you think, can you confirm this is bug and maybe you can help and provide some workaround?

Same problem here with the latest builds of openelec, raspbmc and xbian Sad

Yup same problem, only tested on OpenELEC with Raspberry Pi though. This should be reported at http://trac.xbmc.org/. I was hoping to see if I could get some useful debug output but haven't had a chance yet.

Is raspberry pi officially supported? If so, I can report this issu as bug. Or, if you have account there, please report this.

It's a firmware bug. It is known about:

Do you mean firmware file on /boot partition, loaded when pi boots up? Can I eaisly downgrade this? For example, can I use start.elf and others taken from older openelec builds?

You could try.

Is this fixed? Latest openelec version still has this issue. I've tried to use old firmware and new kernel but it seems to be impossible. Where can I check if this is fixed and how to update my firmware (on opnelec of course)? Is this possible or I will need to wait to new openelec build?

No, still nothing on https://github.com/raspberrypi/firmware. Only recent commit to that repository doesn't appear to have anything to do with this issue (512d32b837: Make sure we wait for the reset to finish in usb driver)

You can see recent commits at https://github.com/raspberrypi/firmware/commits/master. It is possible to build OpenELEC with more recent versions of packages but you shouldn't have to wait long for it to get into OpenELEC once it's fixed.

I believe a potential fix has been found. It's running through the video codec regression tests (which takes something like 24 hours) to make sure it doesn't break anything else.
Hopefully we'll see a pass from that tomorrow.

I've posted an experimental firmware here:
https://github.com/raspberrypi/firmware/issues/115

Not well tested (just grabbed the patch this afternoon) but it fixes some broken files.
