Which Micro ATX should I go for? Is my build okay?
#1
Hi Everyone:

I was going to build a Mini-ITX, however I really like the SilverStone Fortress Case which supports Micro-ATX so I figured I might as well get a Micro-ATX Mobo with the additional PCI Slots for future expansion. I want to future-proof myself & build-something that I can toss in a powerful video card in the future to play MS Flight Sim in 1080P cranked.

I'm torn between the ASRock Z77 Professional-M (http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.asp...6813157300) and ASUS Maximus V Gene (http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.asp...6813131830). I like the ASRock's CIR Header which would save me from purchasing a USB-IR Sensor, but ASUS makes pretty amazing boards. Which one should I go for?

This was going to be the rest of my build. It was originally intended for the ASUS P8Z77-I Deluxe so I may need to look into a different CPU Cooler for the MOBO but here's what I was going to put together:

Case: SilverStone Fortress Series FT03B (http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.asp...6811163176)
PSU: Athena Power AP-MP4ATX55FEP8 550W (http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.asp...6817338038)
CPU: Intel Core i7-3770K (http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.asp...6819116501)
SSD: OCZ Vertex 3 120 GB (http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.asp...6820227706)
RAM: CORSAIR Vengeance 32GB (4 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2133 (http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.asp...6820233333)
CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-C12P SE14 140mm (http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.asp...6835608019)
IR Sensor: Rosewill RHRC-11001 (http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.asp...6880101007)
Remote: Logitech Harmony One (http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Harmony-A...ech+remote)

I appreciate any feedback, this is my first Mini-Build and want to make sure I get my research in.

Just as an FYI you can buy internal USB headers to USB ports so the USB IR sensor can be hidden inside the case(I am doing this in my Wesena ITX-6 case) providing there is some sort of hole to get the signal through

Agreed, but some folks might not feel super comfortable doing that. I would do it but didnt have too. Heck I didnt even plan on having one in the case but remembered I had one lying around that just happened to fit lol.

the asus you have there is a little overkill, so is the cpu and ram.
how about:
i5 35xx (usualy a better gaming prossesor than the i7)
2x8gb /4*4gb (32gb is just way to overkill)
any asus motherboard that covers your needs (z or p series)

if you go with that + a lower cooler you could get everything in to a itx case (if you pick a itx motherboard)
and that would still be quite an overkill setup Smile
