Wake up sleeping Mac with apple remote
#1
XBMC support states:

3.2.3 Can't wake a sleeping Mac using the Apple Remote on 10.7
Shortcut: #Remote_wake
Apple changed how energy saving settings work on Mac OS X 10.7 and it is no longer possible to wake a sleeping Mac using the Apple Remote.

At least in 10.8 it works to wake up the Mac with remote control (from desktop) but still not if XBMC is started. (Using Mac mini)

Any hints?

I'm still somewhat confused with all the comments about not being able to wake using remote when using Lion or Mountain Lion.

I skipped Lion completely and in Mountain Lion i had to disable the darkwake kernel parameter, otherwise the system would wake up but the display would stay black and the system would go back to sleep if there was no keyboard input.

I don't know if this belongs to the wiki as i suspect it's easy to do real damage here but:

sudo nano /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist

Code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple Computer//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">
<plist version="1.0">
<dict>
        <key>Kernel Flags</key>
        <string>darkwake=0</string>
</dict>
</plist>

FWIW, I am using the Manta IR receiver plus the Mira Software from http://twistedmelon.com/ with a Harmony One. Add the HP Media Center as a device and you can wake your mac from sleep with it. I don't know if it would work without the Mira software or not, I have not tested that. And I don't know if it works with the built-in IR receivers (I don't see why not).
