Dang. That seems to pack a punch. Little higher on the cost and the potential power consumption (20W). I like the idea of running android over something linux based like openelec to have extra features like HULU and Netflix (and all the other android apps). Given that these things are starting to pop up all over the place, I think I'll stick with my PI's until the time, power and price, is right for me.

i'm considering an android device as well. What seems to be the best one right now? I know the PIVIOS came highly recommended way back. Is this still the best device to go with or have others hit the market since that outperform the PIVIOS?

According to this article the OUYA is the best out of the box solution running Android.

I would love one of these, but the case looks like Tupperware. I need something that at least appears a little more stable than that.

Get a G-box Midnight MX2 clone for $60-70 and install Linux XBMC on it. That's what I've been using for the past month and it's been terrific.

The Odroid-U3 someone linked earlier looks like something to watch out for.

Now I think Vidon.me Av200 is the best android box for play video file by xbmc. Its can play iso blray/3d with hd-audio.

I have a k-r42...it is a rk3188 device and as soon as they get the gotham alpha builds mediacodec and libstagefright stable they will be one of the best for the money. ~75.00 and it is a quad core with 2gb memory box. Right now they run everything great but you have to turn off mediacodec sometimes and turn it back on depending on the show codec.

Hi all. Newbie here!

I've just taken delivery of one of these:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/191187037901

So far so good! XBMC runs brilliantly.

One thing I do find odd is that the down/up/ping figures are better over wireless than wired. That's a first for me!

So I guess I'm after your views on the device in general, and any tips on getting 1080p video.

Many thanks

So far so good! XBMC runs brilliantly and I'm getting 5.1, 720p and SS3D

It states that it supports 1080p, and indeed I watched a few mins of Gravity 3D via stream and it claimed it was 1080. I have the film on BR disc though and it definitely lacked some detail in comparison.

Honestly? I didn't know anything about xbmc until a week ago and ran it on my PC for a few days, liked what I saw and decided to get a box just to make life a bit easier. Jumped on eBay, did a search and picked the one that seemed to do all what I wanted it to do.

It's not until now, having had the box for a few days, that I've taken a bit more interest in the tech/details, and so I thought I'd ask on here whether I'd bought a dud.

The box seems good, but as above I'm new to this particular tech. It's stable. Hasn't crashed. And has decent picture quality.

What does the box you're looking at do differently, any ideas?

It has WiFi or Ethernet and oddly enough wireless is stronger than wired. Right now I'm 35ms ping 40mb download and 17mb upload via wireless which is comparable to any other device in my home

Tested with speedtest.net app
