Linux XBMCBuntu Frodo RC - AE: Error - no devices found
#16
ok try this as asound.conf

Code:
pcm.!default {
        type hw
        card 0
        device 1
}

ctl.!default {
        type hw
        card 0
}

That should select your digital, failing this I have no idea. HMDI is device 3 they all card 0 analogue is device 0 in case you want to try other combos of the above.

I'm facing the same issue.

Created a file asound.conf, set permissions 755 and pasted this in:

Still "Error - no devices found".

@Bobby Blixberg

Thats specific to tripkip hardware, it wont work for yours depending on what output your trying to set. Not that Im saying the asound.conf will work.

Also its doesn't have to have 755 permissions its a read only file 644 or whatever default is fine.

tripkip is using digital out, you posted no info about your system

I think this is a xbmcbuntu specific problem (xbmcbuntu always borked somehow imo), you guys can try to install minimal Ubuntu + XBMC like on my signature I bet this goes away.

uNi
Oh crap lol, guys make sure ALSAMIXER IS NOT MUTED.

a muted device won't cause the "no device found error", but just won't give any sound

can you guys please post a full debug log?

Thats specific to tripkip hardware,

I'm using the same motherboard, that's why I used this thread.

EDIT: Just noticed that ScotchTape managed to solve it.
Could you please pull me in the right direction because I really don't know how to apply that patch mentioned here:
https://github.com/xbmc/xbmc/pull/1779/files

Do I have to edit the file xbmc/cores/AudioEngine/Sinks/AESinkALSA.cpp ?

@Bobby Blixberg, please upgrade your nvidia driver and remove any /etc/asound.conf or ~/asoundrc files.

Your hardware should not need the above mentioned patch

To all with this issue: Please try to boot the htpc with the TV and/or AVR ON first.

which device do you want to use(HDMI, SPDIF, Analog) and did you actually set it in audio settings?
Do you have an AVR or only TV? Is it on when you boot the pc?

Also some info is missing from the log, because you did not restart xbmc after enabling debugging.

I restarted XBMC several times after enabling debugging.

Want to use SPDIF, set output to Optical/Coaxial, but regardless which output I choose, the error remains (just asking myself how I should use an output from a device which is not found...)

I've uploaded a package with the patch applied to my testing ppa: https://launchpad.net/~wsnipex/+archive/...ba-testing

Can you install that and see if it works:

Code:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:wsnipex/xbmc-xvba-testing
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

restart xbmc or reboot

So you would suggest to reinstall Frodo Beta 1 with my AVR turned on?

@uNi I like your Ubuntu minimal guide, can I use your script to install Frodo Beta 1? What do I need to change then?

Btw I remebered that the working SPDIF device in Eden had 'iec958' in it. So tried card 0 dev 0 but again did not work.

no, not reinstall, only boot the PC with the AVR on.

if that does not work, try the package above

Booting with AVR on and set to Optical does not work. Here is my debug log: http://pastebin.com/c2MLx3Wg

Do I need to remove asound.conf using the package above?
