PVR suggestion for slow LAN
#1
To cut to the chase, this is another suggestion thread unforutnately, but I would appreciate some direction nonetheless.

My apartment complex has a very large number of APs and interference is a big problem. Not to mention that running cable isn't an option.
I've already done everything that I can to improve my signal (WPA2 AES, RT-N16 with tomato 55mW, picked best channel, larger antennas, placement, newest manuf. drivers, turn off power saving, etc) short of hacking other APs and changing their channels or some sort of external reflector. In the end, it still seems that it isn't quite enough.
XBMC and WinTV (straight from the tuner) both stream fine with only occasional buffering, but For The Record and/or Argus (just tried newest version with 4TR plugin) stutter constantly over wlan. What's worse is that even over gigabit lan, it still occasionally stutters.

I guess that it comes down to, what PVR backend is the best for low bandwidth/uses the lowest bit rate?

Thank you
