When you play songs one by one all is fine, so as a matter of workaround, could it be made that the player just stops and then plays the next song?
I know it may be too simple minded thinking from my point of view.

When this is done only when no Xfade is selected then it would not make things worse in that area as well.

Just route all audio over dvdplayer instead of paplayer would have this effect. Can be done with the playercorefactory.xml (see the wiki).
