Will 2012 Mac Mini with Intel HD4000 handle 1080p?

I searched but didn't find much or a definite answer.

Will the new 2012 Mac Mini with Intel HD 4000 graphic i5 2.5ghz handle 1080p files?

I don't want any stuttering or buffering etc. 10gb 1080p mkvs.

Or will a 2011 mac mini with radeon hd graphics card be better?

It should be enough to handle all blu-ray files...

>Alienware X51- do it all HTPC
>Simplify XBMC configurations
>HOW-TO Bitstreaming using XBMC
I refused to watch movie without bitstreaming HD audio!

Will hardware acceleration be enabled with the intel hd 4000? or will the cpu be doing all the decoding?

No idea whats doing the decoding, but I bought a base model mac mini 2012 and am streaming everything from a (via USB 3) attached HDD -> everything runs perfectly smooth... no buffering etc. (tested with a 13GB, 1080p mkv file).

Hope that helps :-)

How about upscaling? I find the picture quality for sd material to be much, much better when lanczos 2/3 or spline36 upscaling is used rather than bilinear, but on my macbook air with Intel HD3000, I can only use bilinear upscaling. Can the new 2012 mac mini with HD4000 use the better upscaling algorithms or is it also limited to only bilinear?

one word: yes

even 3D SBS 1080p run smoothly on my 2011 Mini, streaming from Firewire 800 & USB2

It sure will. I have the 2012 i5 model and no issue at all playing 20-30GB 1080p MakeMKV rips of my Blu Rays.

I got to say, I love my 2012 Mac Mini so far. It easily handles everything I throw at it without any issues. Its also absolutely quiet and, even though I have read some things to the contrary, mine never even gets as much as warm. So yes, thumps up!

The only issue is of course HD Sound... but thats not XBMCs fault... lets hope Apple will get around to this sometime (haha... good one...)... ;-)
