Hang with SPOD requiring force quit.

Only USB devices are mouse, keyboard and external HD containing media.

FWIW - This was working fine yesterday and exited normally when I quit.

This morning it hangs. I've force quite and restarted many times now, it always hangs with the following the last line in the log file:

DEBUG: CAnnouncementManager - Announcement: OnScanFinished from xbmc

Have you tried removing any recent additions to your library? Sometimes corrupt files can cause XBMC to hang like that.
