DIY Ambient LED Lighting Question
#1
Hello all, I have a question and this will be my first setup for ambient lighting.

I have ordered these items so far.

Arduino Uno Rev 3
http://dx.com/p/arduino-uno-rev3-develop...ard-120464
Power Jack Adapter
http://www.ebay.com/itm/280840960443?ssP...1439.l2649
Breadboard Jumpers
http://www.ebay.com/itm/170822893854?ssP...1439.l2649
Power Adapter
http://www.ebay.com/itm/370669777995?ssP...1439.l2649

My question now is the leds itself I want to use the LED strings like the ones from adalight however while searching around I have found some ws2801 ip65 and ws2811 ip67. From my understanding adalight uses ws2801 ip67 correct? Will the IP65 for ws2801 make a difference programming wise or anything? What is the IP65 vs 67.

This will be ran on a Windows 7 64bit computer

Now, I am all ears to which leds to get, where from, programming help, and anything you have to say.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IP_Code

It has nothing to do with programming, it is about how well protected the LEDs are. In that case 6 is dust protected and 5 or 7 is how well they are protected against water.

So it doesn't matter which one you choose, unless you are going to have them in the shower =)

Do not buy them over dealextreme. They are not ws2801!!!!
Personally i prefer non waterproof one because i can mount them nicely. As long they are ws2801 you are good to go.

I bought my LEDs at aliexpress.com. Works fine if you don't use the defaults presets in the XBMC addon.

I was thinking about building one myself any recommendations?

Is this the best build?
http://learn.adafruit.com/adalight-diy-a...v-lighting

And does it work with Win8 and XBMC without other hardware?

The thing with that is it only comes with 25 leds and to add another 25 (in my case) would have costed more.

I think I pieced together a similar kit except mine has 50 leds for a bit under the price of adafruit.
