What skin were you using? If a single-core P4 or Atom 230 can handle the XBMC UI running Confluence, I'd think a newer Dual Core Atom would be able to without much problem... any chance other unrelated background tasks were taxing the CPU?

This is just using Windows, resizing, maximizing, minimizing, etc. There were strange artifacts and slowness. These were new builds and all of them I've done exhibit the same behavior. D2700 is also EOL. I only use them for fanless nettop builds where someone's main usage is not HTPC and I turn off Aero which seems to make things a little smoother. Having done many D525 builds previously, I was surprised to find it to feel slower in just normal usage. OpenELEC is not an option for the D2700 either. It's on the not-supported list. That was enough for me to call it a no-go. I'd rather use the Celeron 847 boards.

My gut feel is the GPU driver is the issue. Despite very low CPU usage everything was just slow.

Did you try XBMC within Win7 32bit with Aero and other non-essential background process disabled? Seems like that would be the test...

Only reason I push the issue is there are so few ~$100 options available these days since the death of the ATV2. Obviously the E350 option above is only $20 more, but a 20% is worth considering if the core features someone is looking for will work well.

This sounds really promising, I've been eyeing your cases for a long time. I'm thinking about throwing together a 847 box based on your comments and some other stuff I've read for either openelec or xbmcbuntu. If it turns out well I may get another bare bones down the line.

This seems like a descent deal: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6813138368 Right now its a 847 chip and mobo + 8 gb ram for 89.99. You can get that mobo+cpu 75 elsewhere so its about 15 off if you want the ram as well.

Dougie, are you selling this one on your site yet?

I just got the new E-i3 cases this week for making little streamer boxes like these. I've got a little more testing to do and then they'll be up on the site, probably within the next day or two.

I can't tell you how excited I am about this! Big Grin (Not sure why I get so excited everytime these get smaller but I do!)

Any IR window on this case?

Unfortunately no, but the manufacturer is looking into it based on my (constant) feedback Smile.
