I am running xbmc through OpenELEC, and have an old hard drive installed. Is there a way to format the old drive? Or can I just use xbmc File Manager to Delete everything on the disk? Just wondering if that will completely erase the disk to maximize storage space, or if I should somehow try and format it?

its probably worth to reformat to a native linux FS(e.g. ext4). If thats already the case, then just delete everything and you'll be good.
formatting usually involves: mkfs.ext4 devicename
e.g. mkfs.ext4 /dev/sdb1 for the 2nd harddisk.
ATTENTION: make sure you pass the correct device

It still has Windows XP on it, so likely FAT32 or NTFS, can't remember which it was.
Being a Linux (and OpenELEC) newbie, where would I go to run this mkfs command?

You would use SSH putty, but given you are a virgin, I would probably download gparted and create a usb disk or burn a cd with it and use that, so you dont make silly mistakes like passing the wrong drive path and format the wrong drive by mistake.
