XBMC airplay not compatible with this version of itunes
#16
I just opened 36667 on my firewall (not router). I first found it was a firewall issue by turning it off completely and found it worked - if you've turned firewall off on all computers, it may be worth trying router as well.

Have been looking into this more. Can't seem to find any more ideas. I can't believe no one else is having this problem, or I'm over looking something so simple that everyone else figures it out on their own.  I reinstalled XBMC and Bonjour on my HTPC. Seems like if it was a network error, it wouldn't see it at all. I did find one other similar post from awhile ago on the forums, but that person just went back to XBMC v11 after they kept getting the same error with Frodo.

I did try installing XBMC Frodo beta 2 on my personal PC and was able to use airplay from my ipod without any trouble... so either the hardware on my HTPC is too old an imcompatible with something, or I messed something up during the installation of windows originally. Not sure what it could be though =(

When I compare the logs of the HTPC and my personal PC there are quite a few differences obviously. The HTPC just shows:

Code:
12:22:39 T:3692    INFO: AIRTUNES: Accepted IPv4 client on socket 2056
12:22:39 T:3692    INFO: AIRTUNES: Local: 192.168.1.49

While my personal PC (when it connects to Airplay shows a lot of stuff, but the first section is:

....

So I'm not sure what the Challenge/Response is all about as I no nothing about the internal working of Airtunes, but it looks like that is not happening on my HTPC.

Do you think re-installing windows will help, or does this seem to be more of a hardware issue? or something else altogether?

By the way I really hope this is some sort of internal XBMC issue because I have spent too much time if it ends up being something simple! ConfusedHuh

Are you sure the password is off? If so is the grayed password empty too?

Now what I've found strange is that my iPad YouTube App and the Photos app work with XBMC ........

I've got the same issue, I've turned off the password and my iPhone and my iPad won't work with AirPlay.

So any other app I try to AirPlay and it keeps asking for a password while the password is turned off.

I've tried iOS_Neil's suggestion and I've turned on Port 36667 and even turned off completely my firewall and it wouldn't Airplay Sad

I've tested this on Frodo Beta 1 & 2.

WOW! I never thought to use another app on my ipod. I used the YouTube app and it did worked perfectly to XBMC, then I tried music from the ipod music app. It worked, but then I got the blue screen of death. So it seems now Airtunes is working, but I think my issue with the BSOD is hardware related perhaps. There's no reference to any issues in the XBMC log, but then it just ends.

Thanks to Xonnie316 for that idea. I would say to make sure the actual password field is blank. Mine had 4 'stars' there like there was a password, so I enabled password and deleted those four entries, then disabled password again. Not sure if this effected anything or not!

I have no idea how connecting with youtube app first fixed the problem, but I'm no longer getting connection errors with any apps, just the blue screen problem.

The blue screen is from MilkDrop visualization. Think my computer just too old for such high tech visualization. Tongue

Thanks to all for their help!

Struggling with this to. Rolling iTunes back to version 10.7 does not seem to help on Mac OS X or Windows. I'm having this problem in 12 RC2 and in 12 RC3.

Edit:
Deleting my AppData\Roaming\XBMC folder seems to fix the problem, so it seems to be some configuration problem.
