Bug Frodo Beta 2: Failed to get size of gamma for output default
#1
I have updated from Eden to Frodo Beta 2 yesterday and everything seemed to go fine.

Today when I try to log in as xbmc user, the screen gets blank for a few seconds and the desktop login window appears again.
This is the crash log:

Then your xbmc install and possibly even drivers are screwed.

rename your guisettings.xml if that doesnt do it.

Use the xvba ppa (see my sig top link) and reinstall XBMC and your video drivers and install gdb < really install gdb. in any case.

Renaming guisettings.xml did not do it, so I
- installed XBMC from the XVBA-PPA repo
- installed gdb
- updated the video drivers
- rebooted

The problem remains the same.

When i try to start XBMC from the terminal:

Code:
Error: unable to open display
FEH.py: cannot connect to X server

I think I will have to re-install from scratch....

plz try moving your ~/.xbmc

Code:
cd
mv .xbmc .xbmc.bak

if this doesn't work, provide the output of:
Code:
apt-cache policy libasound2 xbmc

Just to make sure we cover the basics.. + what wsnipex said.

Make sure any current /etc/asound.conf or .asoundrc are renamed as well.

Thanks. Will try that next time in case the error occurs again.

This time I decided to reinstall from scratch using XBMCbuntu 12 Beta 1 (as Beta 2 is not yet available) and updated this installation to Beta 2.
Now everything works fine again.

Takes about half an hour normally...

I would have waited longer, but I really need a working XBMC today.

I'm facing the same problem again after having added my music to the database and installing a skin (xperience 1080).
No asound.conf or .asoundrc in /etc, renaming guisettings.xml did not help, nor did renaming .xbmc folder.

Will post the log files tomorrow, I'm having enough of XBMC for now.

use default skin if same problems persist you know its not skin, skins are known to cause issues anyway and when you have problems you want everything to be more or less default.

To me it does not look like an error due to a skin, but i would try that if i knew which file to be edited to go back to the default skin.

EDIT: There was a .asoundrc file under /home/xbmc (not /etc) which I deleted, now XBMC is back again.

Yes for future reference purposes, /etc/asound.conf (global config file) and .asoundrc is per user config file they exist (user created or xbmcbuntu creates it) as you found out in difference directories, always have.

Wrong config files can send everything into disarray. specially sound related. XBMCbuntu is probably generating something wrong for AE from the days you needed config files to get your audio in XBMC working.

I guess your problem is fixed then.
