Best Deinterlacing
#1
Hi there,

I've built up a new HTPC with the INtel HD4000 cause of it's very low power consumption and - more or less - strong GPU. The system runs quite stable with the New Frodo Beta and with the most videos I've got, it seems to work very well. There's just one issue I'm really interested in to solve. I't the deinterlacing. Plattform is Windows 7 64Bit and as mentioned before the new Frodo. I've turned on the HW accelaration and it seems to work (checked with the cpu usage). So I played some TV Recordings that are in 576i and in 1080i.

I opened the menu and activated the deinterlacing. I switched from Weave (I guess) to now DXVA Box. Well, better, but not really an option. I then tried "DXVA Best" and the Video stopped immediately. Turning back to Bob it started again but has an really bad deinterlacing then.

I know that e.g with the Lav Decoder in MPC the HD4000 can handle a better deinterlacing then just Bob (Do not know if motion adaptive or vectore adaptive but in comparison to the deinterlacing in XBMC ther's a huge difference). I put in an AMD Grafic card just to check if there's any problems with the DXVA Best. No there isn't. The quality raises up a lot. It's not perfect but a lot lot better then BOB.

My question is: Is there any chance to activate the DXVA Best with an Intel HD4000 and if so, where to do. I've the latest drivers installed and also all the directX Updates. So there should be no problem and anyway it works in an external Player with another decoder.

Thank you in advance and Regards,

S

I have a HD2000 and I get a frozen picture when using turning on DXVA Best, so I'm also interested in this question.

Hi,

this is exactly what you have with the HD3000 the HD2500 and finally the HD4000 (which I use). If you have the possibilty then double queck with an different player and the LacDecoder with turned on HS Accelaration. The quality should be high above.

Hi,

with the new Beta 3 Frodo there is also a freezing picture with best deinterlacing setting. Is this a general issue? I found this article here

http://www.anandtech.com/show/5773/intel...spective/4

So in general it should be possible :-) Hopefully :-)

Would a debug log be of any help? Its a shame really that this isn't working, because "DXVA Best" give a much better video picture compared to "DXVA Bob"

Hi,

attached you find a fresh logile. I set the deinterlaing to DXVA Best per default and then started . I just showed a freezing picture then I stoped. Hopefully someone can find a solution.

Hi,

any news about this? I'm not sure if that is a bug or it's simply not possible to get the highest quailty out. Could domeone give an information on that. I'm really interested in the High Quality Deinterlacing.

Thanks in advance and Regards,

Alex

Please enable debugging and post a debug log. This is not a debug logfile.

Hi,

attached you find a debug log from a fresh install. I did these steps:
- Starting XBMC
- Enabling Debug-LOG
- Started Video with DXVA Best activated (Video did not play)
- Stopped Video
- Started Video again
- Switched to DXVA BOB (Video started playing immediately)

Thanks a lot and Regards,

Unfortunately the log shows nothing suspicious. Sad

Hi,

thank you very much for information. So I guess the only way would be (I mean if interesting for you) that someone of the developpers directly test on this platform. If someone from Germany's here I could provide such a system.

Hi,
A last try :-) I made a short video to give you an impression, I also uploaded the debug log. Before I started the video I switched the default deinterlacing to BEST. With the Method "BOB" there's no problem but the quality is very low. With ATI and Nvidia it definitely works and the quality is a lot better. The deinterlacing power of the HD4000 should be enough cause with an external decoder like LAV or Cyberlink it works and the quality is high above what you get out of BOB.
Hopefully there's someone who also wants to use a pure Intel System. It has so many advantages for example the Power Consumption. It only uses 25W during HD Playback. With an ATI Card or an FM2 Onboard it is almost double.

Thanks and Regards,

Alex

There is, I would love to see this fixed.

Hi,

i just wanted to bring up this and ask if there's any news.

Intel has a very Powerful GPU now that can handle a good Hardware deinterlacing. Unfortunatelly there's only BOB supported within XBMC. I checked several Decoder e.g. the lav, Cyberlink or the built in MPC decoder. All support a very smooth HW Deinterlacing and the result was on same Level Ati or Nvidia provides.

So my question would be if there's any chance to also implement that in XBMC and enjoy the much higher quality.

If there's any developpers in Germany I would provide one of the new and very small Intel NUCs to have a plattform. This system has the HD4000 integrated.

Alex
