I am in the process of evaluating my future HTPC road. Windows Media Center (WMC) will not have much life in the next few years, and XBMC looks great. There is one thing that I wish it would handle better, however, for the wife acceptability factor -- listing of .wtv files with the embedded metadata.
We have many shows that we have recorded over the years, and it would be nice to see the same informaiton in XBMC that we see when using WMC. Seems like it shouldn't be too hard to write another "library" type of plugin, kinda like the "TV" and "MOVIES" ones. Anything like that exist? I have come across a WtvMetaRenamer tool that would help recognize some of the many .wtv files (ie. "show title -- s00e00 -- description.wtv"), but not all of them get renamed for various reasons (ie. first-aired date incorrect). Besides, I wasn't looking to be constantly babysitting that process; I figure that the metadata is already in teh .wtv file, and there should be a way for a plugin to get at it.
If I had something like this, I could continue to use the WMC recording abilities for the next year or so while the PVR abilities in XBMC get better. As a side note... I tried all tv server possibilities for windows (ie. npvr, argus, etc.), and I just could not get any of them to work well, if at all.
