Only one file jerky, buffering ATV2
#1
I have one file that plays very jerky and keeps buffering on ATV2. I stream via Ethernet. It plays just fine on my computer (also streaming) but plays terrible on my ATV2. This is the only file I have problems with. I notice the CPU is significantly higher when playing this file, 92-96%.

The name of the file is Madagascar 2 Escape 2 Africa 720p.

"16 frames"

That's the problem. That's an absurd setting, and whoever encoded the video doesn't know what they're doing.

That would drive the processor usage? Why does it play well on the computer?

The hardware decoder won't accept it, so the CPU tries to decode it but doesn't have enough power. The reason your computer plays it well is because it's a big desktop computer that runs an actual desktop CPU and not a cellphone CPU like the ATV2.

Should I re encode the file?

If you want to watch it on an ATV2, sure.

are there recommended settings and is there a good shareware program?

Handbrake (wiki) and most of its profiles are fine, such as the HighProfile settings.
