Hello,

Running openelec 3.0 rc1. Don't know if this issue is specific to openelec, or frodo.

When a movie is paused, the box will never shutdown/suspend when idle, no matter how long it is left for.

When in the menu, it does shut down properly by itself when idle.

IMO, that would be the expected behavior when it's paused.

Why not just stop the movie? You can always resume from that point.

i agree with gabbott. pause means "stop" for a very short time, no need to shutdown or hibernate.

My system has suspended when paused for as long as I can remember - i thought it was the default behaviour. What could be causing these different behaviours? I can't post a debug log for another 5days, but I would be more than happy to when I get back home..

Could this be related to power savings settings? From memory on my machine screen saver starts after 3min, Display off after 10 min and suspending after 15 min.

When video playback is paused on your system, does the screensaver pop up after 3 minutes and does the display blank out after 10 minutes?

I have movie fanart screen saver enabled which works as should in menus etc, but when a movie is paused it dims after 3 min then blanks out after 10 (no signal message displays on tv) .

Gabbot, Pyromaniac: Of course, If I knew that I would be away from the box long enough to want it to suspend, I would obviously press Stop (or even shut it down) - but life isn't always predictable, and it would be much nicer knowing that if I'm kept away for longer than expected, I don't have to return to the box to tell it to stop before going out again (or worse, return a day later and groan about all the wasted electricity) !

I shouldn't have to think about whether I want to pause, stop, or shutdown - the box should do it for me in accordance with the power settings.

I have "Put display to sleep when idle" at 10 mins
"Shutdown funtcion timer" 30 mins
Shutdown function "Shutdown"

"Screensaver mode" Slideshow
"Use dim if paused during video playback" Yes

Interestingly, when I ran older versions of XBMC on Windows, having "dim" set to disable, and using Slideshow screensaver, would cause XBMC to STOP playback when PAUSED before starting the screensaver - which would allow the shutdown timer to operate - but unfortunately this behaviour is different now - the screensaver starts whilst keeping playback paused.
