Awesome little gadget...

Nice find. Doesn't solve my problem though, but I guess that's up to me, since apparently I'm expected to fall in like to suit those who run this project.

I'll find a way around this team's bullshit, and be all the better for it it in the end. While they can stagnate with their half broken software.

Well since you said

Quote:I'm definitely not renaming all these files (which is inconvenient on many levels) just so they'll appear in XBMC. Why can't XBMC just have an inbuilt method for handling this stuff? D= First world problems to be sure.

what else was I supposed to take from that other than you weren't willing to put in any effort and seemed to be suggesting XBMC automagically does it allHuh

XBMC is a media playback program which expects to find existing metadata or a way to easily identify the media from the files and download the metadata itself, it is not however a media metadata manager as this is better handled by one of the specialised media management tools out there, such as filebot linked above.

You've still not stated why you're not willing to rename the files?

Anyway since you're the one with the attitude I'm done here.

Your false assumptions are not my fault, if you choose the assume that I'm lazy, when I am most certainly not, then that's still douchey. Furthermore, considering the amount of vitriol I received for pirating from you, I'm choosing to play my cards close to my chest. Don't bite people's heads off about revealing things, things perfectly within the rules of the forum, and expect them to still spill further details to you. You'll end up being disappointed.

As to media managers, do you think I haven't tried those? The filebot mentioned seems to function by renaming files according to their metadata, which clearly doesn't solve my issue since the whole problem is that I can not ( not WILL NOT) rename the files. If you know a media manager that will allow me to add my episodes the XBMC without renaming the files, by all means tell me. I've tried out between 5 and 10 of the things and none have done what I needed.

You need to stop assuming that I'm being lazy and start entertaining the idea that maybe I've tried these avenues and come up wanting...

That was aimed at the other guy that came looking for help...

(2013-01-29, 14:36)Neroes Wrote: sorry for the late reply i have been busy handling the audio and music part of the media center

currently i have then as folders that contain the same files as a .iso would
so it looks something like this
My Movies\Fantasia\Fantasia_2000_(1999)\Fantasia_2000_(1999).Disc2\VIDEO_TS\
where it contains a bunch of .BUP, .IFO an .VOB Files

so i will just re rip the 2+ disc movies to .iso
and rip all future movies to .iso, just to be on the safe side

Yep you should then find you will be able to stack the multi disc once they are saved as .iso rather than folder dumps.. just remember to add cdx partx discx etc... or some similar recognised indicator onto the end of the file names once you have the .iso and ensure the information prefixing this is the same.. i.e Fantasia 2000 (1999) cd1.iso & Fantasia 2000 (1999) cd2.iso they must also obviously sit inside the same folder to stack within the library.

Enjoy

Nice ban Ned. No reason to have someone like that around here.

(I couldn't help but laugh when reading "I can not (not WILL NOT) rename the files." you have that backwards unless you have some serious issues with where ever your storing your files)

I suspect the problem could be these are files gained from torrent downloads so renaming would destroy being able to seed, in which case 2 copies of the files should be kept with one set kept in the download folder for seeding and a copy sent to a media storage folder for renaming & adding to XBMC.

I suspect so. A perfect case for symlinks. I have used them successfully to do the same thing.
If I have helped you or increased your knowledge, click the 'thumbs up' button to give thanks :) (People with less than 20 posts won't see the "thumbs up" button.)

Also FileBot will happily copy/symlink/hardlink files instead of renaming/moving files.

There's like 5 buttons on the whole UI, takes less than 10 seconds to click them all and figure out what it can do.

Several torrent clients exist that support renaming the seeding file, too, even if it is just one of many files in the torrent.
