are you using mx player as an external player in xbmc? or are you using mx player?

any examples of problems with the firmware? what do you use xbmc for?

Yes via XBMC external player, not really problems more of less than good optimization, games are laggy and things like that. XBMC is used for my TV and Films not to big (250gb) via a attached ntfs hdd using paragonNTFS

I hope they have good support with firmware updates or some good modding developers because with quad core you should not be experiencing lag in your game play.

lartomar / anyone,

is this quad core (the GK802+RC11) an example of what people have been waiting for? I've heard a few folk on this forum say they were not going to purchase until the quad core boxes were released.

if this is actually a proper quad core then how come the specs only say 1.2Ghz? the atv1200 i just bought is only dual code and it's 1.6Ghz.

the number of cores has nothing to do with the CPU clock, why should it ?

quad core - means it has 4 cpu cores each running 1.2ghz. DualCore - only 2 cpu cores. I leave the math up to you.

There is a dicussion on this forum about this stick: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthre...p=36030157. You will probably get more info there. You will have to register before you can post any questions.

ok chaps be gentle Wink

1.6*2=3.2
1.2*4=4.8

so 3.2 v's 4.8

so is this 4.8Ghz quad core, really 50% faster/more powerful than my 3.2Ghz dual core? can it do things roughly 50% faster or is that crazy/oversimplified?

Yes, it's oversimplified. Smile

so will the quad core run applications etc nowhere near 50% faster?

Personally I'd steer well clear.

Way too oversimplified, first you can't compare clock speed just like that. And second, more cores does not always mean faster execution. Multiple cores only help when you are running tasks that can be split among the cores, if your critical process can run in only one core then it will perform almost the same in a machine with one core and in a machine with 1000 cores.

I have a Minix Neo X5 and it's been impressive so for with the libstagefright builds. There are some 1080p MKVs that it doesn't seem to like. I can't seem to get Live TV working (from mediaportal server) without it crashing and the addons don't seem to use the hardware acceleration but in spite of all that I'm still very hopeful that these issues will be ironed out as time goes on. The Neo X5 uses a Mali400 quad core for GPU and a Rockchip 3066 dual core for CPU. The CPU/GPU are very close (if not exactly the same) as what comes with the Pivos XIOS box. With the Neo X5 you do get 16GB of storage, so that's a plus.

Seems there is a linux build for the Pivos XIOS now that works great with XBMC on there so here's hoping we'll see a linux build as well as full android support on the X5 too

so would you recommend the minix neo x5 as an xbmc box? or maybe i should put a new category in the OP for "can't quite recommend it yet, but it will be awesome as xbmc for android matures in the next few weeks/months"?

by the way, can you tell me how you know the addons aren't using hardware acceleration? how can one tell?

I do have the XAF build running on a Genitech - M1 ATV3000 single core..
http://www.geniatech.com/pa/atv3000.asp

Pivios latest Android build, Overclocked to 900mhz on Performance governor..

It's the best its been so far.. And would love to upgrade to a dual core..
But cant see any reason until things get a bit more sorted out..
I run XBMC on the laptop and on the Asus TF-101 so I get to play with them all and compare..

With the XAF XBMC on top, and shutting unnecessary rouge programs from hogging memory,
I almost have an acceptable system..

Here''s a link to the thread on these box's if you pick on up cheap..
and I mean it has to be cheap, as its only for testing and getting your toes wet before the next generation comes out..

http://androidforums.com/google-tv/40816...tv-43.html

Now this is really what we want and I am thinking of ripping my box apart and homebaking it with one of these inside it..
