Before switching to MySQL I used the wol add on and it worked perfect but it cannot work with an MySQL setup. Is there any solution? With MySQL xbmc will not start unless the server is running. How can I set up something to send the wol signal when I launch xbmc. I am running windows 8.

I am not sure if I want to install a different build. Maybe one day it will be built into the main branch.

I recommend the build noted above, it does exactly what you want and the added functionality is the only thing that is different.
Other wise you need a command line tool that you can stick in a batch file and get it to run when you start xbmc.
