Yeah...
(I hope this is going to be fixed soon but for now...)

Subtitles can be disabled in the Audio OSD menu Big Grin Shocked

I just downloaded the windows version today. In some of my videos the subtitles are on but when I open the subtitle menu it just says "none". The suggestion to disable with the audio menu works if you have a less intrusive subtitle track embedded. The biggest reason I'm responding to this thread though is that I found a new format that is having the issue besides S_VOBSUB, I am also experiencing an issue with mp4s from my self-ripped files. none of my files are forced subtitles and I have included the media info for both file types I'm having issues with. Does anyone know about a bug report/response about this?

Hi, *bump*.

Got a MKV file with two text Streams, both non-forced as reported by AVIInfo. When playing in XBMC, the following line in DVDOverlayCodecFFmpeg.cpp results in the subtitles being incorrectly "forced". I think this be traced back to FFMpeg's avcodec_decode_subtitle2 returning incorrect information in AVSubtitleRect, setting flags to 1.

I'm using 13.1 built from source (Branch_13.1 Gotham) on Windows.

ok, here's some more info:

Code:
Text #1
ID                                       : 4
Format                                   : PGS
Muxing-Modus                             : zlib
Codec-ID                                 : S_HDMV/PGS
Codec-ID/Info                            : The same subtitle format used on BDs/HD-DVDs
Sprache                                  : Französisch
Default                                  : Ja
Forced                                   : Nein

Text #2
ID                                       : 5
Format                                   : PGS
Muxing-Modus                             : zlib
Codec-ID                                 : S_HDMV/PGS
Codec-ID/Info                            : The same subtitle format used on BDs/HD-DVDs
Sprache                                  : Englisch
Default                                  : Nein
Forced                                   : Nein

So the subs are PGS, but not "forced" as by the mkv container. There's another "force" flag inside the PGS format, though. See the following patch for libavcodec: http://lists.libav.org/pipermail/libav-c...08924.html. This is where the rectangle flag AV_SUBTITLE_FLAG_FORCED is introduced, which is later interpreted by XBMC.

So it seems that that the PGS streams in this MKV file have been incorrectly encoded -- the two subtitle streams are actual complete transcripts of everything spoken, so should really not haven been marked "forced". Unfortunatelly, XBMC is missing an option to NOT select any of the given subtitle streams, and disabling subtitles in playback does not work because of the "forced".

Hello

Same problem here. It is exaclty as pgit wrote. Even if i disable subs after 3 - 5s i will see subs from #1. It should to be fixed.

Codec ID/Info                            : The same subtitle format used on BDs/HD-DVDs
Title                                    : 3D

Tekst #2

Imo the problem is that some overlays/subtitle items inside the pgs are marked as forced but not the whole stream.
Cf. http://forum.doom9.org/showpost.php?p=16...ostcount=8
I'm afraid that it's not easy to "fix". The best option might be to use a subtitle tool.
